Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, as described in the Gospels. It is the Thursday before Easter and is part of Holy Week, the most sacred week in the Christian calendar. The name "Maundy" comes from the Latin word "mandatum", meaning "commandment." During the Last Supper, Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment: to love one another as he had loved them.
